Standard all-wheel drive, a tiny size that improves agility, and the ability to pull more than most competitors.

Ford EcoSport

$23,335

Overview

Not particularly fuel-efficient, with cramped rear-seat accommodations, as well as interior and ride-quality concerns.

What's New

The standard engine is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged with 181 horsepower, but a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with 245 horsepower is also offered.

Engine

The sole powertrain options for the 2022 EcoSport are a 166-hp four-cylinder engine, a six-speed automated transmission, and all-wheel drive.

Performance

One of the few positives of the Ford is that it can tow 2000 pounds, which is more than most subcompact crossovers can.

Fuel Economy

Its single engine and standard all-wheel drive system get 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the interstate.

Interior

The leather-wrapped steering wheel had a rubbery feel to it, and the majority of the plastic surfaces seemed harsh and hollow.

VERDICT

Because of its numerous sacrifices, the EcoSport ranks dead last in its competitive class.
