2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale has formally introduced the Tonale, a compact SUV that will also come with the option of a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) model.
It will be placed below its Stelvio SUV and compete with the basic Audi Q3 and BMW X1 when introduced to its debut in the U.S. in about a year.
Although the automaker claims that the hybrid represents the start of a company transformation into an alternative-fuel car company, a conventional gasoline model will likely be the main driver of Tonale sales.
Whatever the powertrain, regardless of the engine, every Tonale comes with a non-fungible currency called NFT. Alfa claims are a unique method for a vehicle’s service record to be logged onto a blockchain.
To clarify, most vehicle service histories are stored in the traditional database linked to the vehicle’s VIN.
Alfa states that the NFT can increase the value of the vehicle’s residual value by making its service history more transparent. However, it’s unclear what it will do to improve the conventional VIN-based method.
